Herd the Data: The Origin

Hi, I’m John — a data analyst with a deep love for soccer, trail running, and fitness. Herd the Data is where all of those worlds collide.

Most posts will live at the intersection of performance and curiosity. Some will dive deep into the numbers, exploring patterns, performance, and what they might reveal. Others will be raw reflections from the trail, the pitch, or quiet moments between movement. Some might be a bit of both. I’ve worn a lot of hats in soccer: player, coach, analyst, fan. Through it all, I’ve become a firm believer in the power of sports to break down barriers, and in the ability of data to shine a light on where we can do better in those sports — especially when it comes to equity, access, and development.

I work closely with soccer communities in Colorado and believe the game should belong to everyone. I run long, slow miles in the mountains and find peace in pushing the body beyond what the mind believes is possible. In the winter, I love skiing through the trees. Sometimes, I’ll write about Arsenal F.C or about matches I watched that week. I’ll always write about something that interests me.

Many posts will also include a photo from my adventures, offering a glimpse into where the data and stories come from. This blog may drift and change, but at its core it’s about movement, insight, and the pursuit of something better — in sport, in data, and in life.
